  • The thickness of domestic masonry chimney has been standardised to a nominal thickness of 4 inches.
  • The inner side of chimneys should be lined with a layer of some lining material. The choice of lining material solely depends on the type of chimney service and for the specific appliance which is going to be connected to the chimney.
  • The distance of chimney from any inflammable material is adapted to be a minimum of 2 inches, but if the same chimney is located outdoors, a distance of 1 inches is acceptable. However, it would be dangerous to mix this concept with a thorough wall thickness of chimney. The importance of wall thimble is critically very important.
  • The angle for the flue slop is optimised to be 30 degrees from vertical.
  • The flues of chimneys are meant to discharge the waste gases of same fuel kinds.
